Washington Area Women’s Foundation Announces New 2018 Board Members

Leo Tucker, Managing Partner, Northwestern Mutual, Machelle D. Williams, Sr. Director, Diversity and Corporate Social Responsibility, Volkswagen Group of America, Dr. Matthew D. Shank, Interim President World Affairs Council-Washington, DC

Washington, D.C.  (September 10, 2018) – Leo Tucker, Machelle D. Williams and Dr. Matthew D. Shank, have been named to the Board of Directors for Washington Area Women’s Foundation, the only donor-supported, public foundation solely dedicated to building economic security for women and girls in the Washington D.C. metro area. They will start their terms immediately.

Leo Tucker is Managing Partner for Northwestern Mutual’s Washington, D.C. office and is responsible for sales, recruiting and service operations in the District of Columbia, Western Maryland, and Northern Virginia, with offices in McLean, Fairfax, Reston, Rockville and the District of Columbia. In his time with the agency, Leo has more than doubled the size and performance of his firm with over 150 financial advisors specializing in financial planning, investments, business, and estate analysis.

Machelle D. Williams is the Senior Director of Diversity and Corporate Social Responsibility at Volkswagen Group of America Inc. Machelle has 24 years of experience in the Volkswagen Group of America.  Offering a blend of strategic and operational strengths, Machelle has worked to align the company’s diversity and corporate giving strategies with overall corporate objectives.

Dr. Matthew D. Shank is Interim President at World Affairs Council-Washington, DC and president emeritus of Marymount University. Dr. Shank became Marymount University’s sixth president in July 2011. He has been named interim president of the World Affairs Council-Washington, DC, effective July 16. He previously served on the organization’s board, and in 2017, he accepted the Council’s Educator of the Year Award in recognition of Marymount’s focus on preparing students for today’s globalized environment.
