Your support through a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) has played a vital role in strengthening our community and expanding opportunities for women and girls across the Washington metropolitan area. As you plan your year-end giving, new federal tax changes scheduled for 2026 may make this year a particularly strategic moment to recommend your next DAF grant.

While each donor’s financial situation is unique, many advisors are encouraging year-end charitable decisions before December 31, 2025 to maximize the benefits available under current tax rules.

Key Charitable Tax Changes Taking Effect in 2026

  1. A new 0.5% of income “floor” will apply—meaning only the portion of charitable giving above 0.5% of AGI will be deductible.
  2. High-income taxpayers will experience a reduced deduction benefit, as the value of the charitable deduction will be capped under the new rules.
  3. The ability to deduct cash gifts to public charities up to 60% of AGI is expected to continue, though it will now be subject to the new floor.
  1. A new charitable deduction of up to $1,000 for individuals or $2,000 for couples will become available.

  2. This new deduction does not apply to contributions made to Donor-Advised Funds

Because of these changes, recommending your DAF grant to Washington Area Women’s Foundation before the end of the year may offer a more favorable tax outcome than waiting until after the new rules take effect.
