At Washington Area Women’s Foundation, we often talk about living in a region divided — a community that boasts about being home to some of the most successful women in the country, while at the same time struggling to wipe out poverty and increase access to resources. Now, we’re offering you a unique opportunity to help us build a bridge between these worlds and ensure that every woman and girl has a chance to work, learn and thrive in a safe environment.
Washington Area Women’s Foundation has been selected to become a charity benefactor of the inaugural Woodrow Wilson Bridge Half Marathon, a 13.1 mile run from Mount Vernon to the National Harbor on September 19th (click here to see Event Director Steve Nearman name The Women’s Foundation one of the six charity partners of the half marathon). As this year’s race ambassador and a member of Team WAWF, I’d like to invite you to join us.
How You Can Help:
1. Run With Us — Go to the official registration page and sign up to run. Then, send us your contact information at Run4Us@wawf.org so you can receive official team updates.
2. Sponsor a Runner — Donate in honor of a runner or to the team in general. Your donation will go toward improving the lives of women and girls. As an official sponsor of Team WAWF, you’ll also receive a special thank you from the runners and The Foundation.
3. Volunteer — With a crowd of thousands expected during race weekend, we’ll need help getting our message out. If you want to enthusiastically talk about our work and are available on September 18th for the race expo or on the 19th for race day, please email Run4Us@wawf.org.
This half marathon is going to be a fun opportunity to increase awareness, raise money and meet other members of our community. I look forward to seeing you at the starting line!
